The appealing and walkable half-mile of 12th Avenue South is home to upscale bakeries, bars and boutiques that capture Nashville’s contemporary energy.

Among its noted—and unusual—dining options is Locust, from Chef Trevor Moran, who focuses on dumplings and Japanese-style shaved ice. The venue made The New York Times’ list of “50 restaurants we love most in 2022.”

Several local designers and entrepreneurs have set up shop in 12 South—for example, Judith Bright, Emerson Grace, imogene + willie and Reese Witherspoon, who offers her Draper James label on the avenue. Additionally, White’s Mercantile, created by Holly Williams, granddaughter of the late Hank Williams, is a go-to for home goods, décor and accessories.

Nearby Green Hills is another destination for affluent visitors. Among its landmarks is the Bluebird Cafe, which offers a limited menu but an outsize reputation for music. Songwriters, both established and up-and-coming, have performed at the Bluebird since its opening in 1982.

Green Hills is also known for shops with high-end wares. Boutiques like Billy Reid, H. Audrey, Hemline and dozens of others are located at the Hill Center, while luxe brands like Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton and Gucci occupy The Mall at Green Hills.
